Biography of Willie Obiano

Willie Maduabuchi  Obiano is the current governor of Anambra state, he was born at Aguleri, a town in Anambra State, Eastern Nigeria to the Family of  Late Phillip Obiano and Christy Obiano.

He attended Holy Trinity Primary School, Onitsha, and later obtained his WASC and HSC at Christ the King College (CKC) Onitsha.

He holds a B.Sc. Second Class Upper in Accounting from Unilag (1979) and an MBA in Marketing also from same university. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).

 He began his banking career in 1981 at the First Bank of Nigeria before he left to joined the services of Chevron Oil Nigeria Plc as accountant and rose to the position of Chief Internal Auditor. In 1989, he was one of the auditors that audited Texaco Refinery in Rotterdam, Netherlands. In 1991, he joined the Fidelity Bank as Deputy Manager and head of Audit unit and rose to the position of Executive Director on October 2003.

He left the Banking System to joined the Nigerian politics and contested the November 16, 17 and 30 Anambra State gubernatorial elections on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA. He won the election and was sworn in on March 17, 2014 to succeed Peter Obi.

He is married to Mrs. E V Obiano.
